Infinity, government to set up 6K electric vehicle charging points

ArabFinance: Infinity, in collaboration with the Egyptian government, is set to establish 6,000 electric vehicle charging (EV) points, across 3,000 charging stations nationwide over the next three years, the company said in a press release.

The project’s first phase, the largest infrastructure push for EVs to date, aims to deploy some 2,000 charging points in 1,000 stations in Greater Cairo, Alexandria, and parts of Qalyubia.

Infinity said that it will build, operate, and maintain the chargers, in addition to providing maintenance and technical support to El Nasr Automotive during the testing phase of newly-imported EVs by the state-owned company.

Charging at Infinity’s docks will be provided at no cost until the Electricity Ministry finalizes a tariff structure.

On June 17th, State-owned El Nasr Automotive will test the E70 electric vehicles it imported from China in July. The tests will be handled by Uber drivers and will examine the car’s performance on Egyptian roads.

In April, Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik said that El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company is expected to start manufacturing electric cars (Nasr E70) by mid-2022.

He added that Nasr E70 cars will save about EGP 200,000 in costs over 300,000 kilometres compared to a car running on 92-octane gasoline.

Furthermore, the country plans to build about 3,000 dual electric vehicles (EV) stations in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah el Sisi.

Launched in 2018, Infinity EV was established with the vision to develop Egypt’s electric vehicle charging network infrastructure. Infinity EV is a subsidiary of Infinity, the leading company in the renewable energy sector in Egypt. To date, the company has more than 130 charging points.
