Cairo Airports Company expands Sphinx airport at EGP 1B
ArabFinance: Cairo Airports Company is expanding Sphinx International Airport at a cost of approximately EGP 1 billion, Shorouk News cited Chairman Adel Mahgoub on January 25th.
The firm is setting up a new building comprising two terminals for arrivals and departures to accommodate 600 passengers per hour, the official said, expecting the opening to take place this year.
Mahgoub confirmed that Sphinx airport’s total capacity will reach 900 travelers per hour after the expansion.
Cairo Airports intends to accommodate 1.2 million passengers on an annual basis, he added.
A new airstrip for landing is also being implemented at the airport with a capacity of up to nine aircraft per hour, the chairman noted.
The company reportedly started negotiations with local banks last Octobe to borrow nearly EGP 2.5 billion for the renovation of both St. Catherine and Sphinx international airports.
