UAE tops Egypt’s export destinations in 8M

The UAE has topped Egypt’s export destinations during the first eight months of 2018 with Egyptian imports worth $1.5 billion, followed by Turkey with $1.39 billion.

Italy came in the third spot with Egyptian imports valued at $1.24 billion, followed by Saudi Arabia with imports valued at $932 million, head of the General Organization for Export & Import Control (GOEIC) Ismail Gaber said in a statement on Sunday.

Moreover, the US imports from Egypt hit $957 million, whereas the UK imported around $702 million from the most populous Arab country, Gabe added.

Spain's imports from the North African nation stood at $541 million, whereas imports of Germany and France reached $459 million and $462 million, respectively, he indicated.

He also said that Jordan imports from Egypt valued at 393 million, while imports of Russia valued at 338 million.

Egypt’s non-oil exports rose by 10% year-on-year, or $1.54 billion, during the first eight months of 2018, recording $16.54 billion from $14.99 billion.

Meanwhile, Egyptian non-oil imports increased by 12%, registering $43.14 billion in the January-August period of this year, compared to $38.35 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to a statement by the Egyptian trade and industry ministry on Sunday.
