Telecom Egypt and Etisalat Misr update roaming deal, sign LoI on MTRs

07 Jul 2018

Telecom Egypt and Etisalat Misr have announced the signing of an amendment to the national roaming agreement that the pair originally inked in June 2017. In a press release, Telecom Egypt noted that the amendment ‘provides better financial and service quality terms availing improved commercial conditions’ for it. With the updated deal said to be partly the result of the development of the volume of Telecom Egypt’s data traffic, the new agreement – which is valid until December 2022 – involves national roaming services on Etisalat’s network for Telecom Egypt’s voice and data traffic.

Meanwhile, the two operators have also signed a letter of intent (LoI) for mobile termination rates (MTRs), which include a preferential termination rate for Telecom Egypt. The LoI reportedly aims to put a framework for the interconnection rate between both operators, and the duo claim it represents ‘the first arrangement on mobile interconnection for Telecom Egypt’.

Commenting on the latest developments, Telecom Egypt CEO Ahmed El Beheiry said: ‘The signing of these agreements with Etisalat Misr is a crucial and beneficial step for Telecom Egypt as it enhances the company’s profit margins as well as the quality of service provided to its mobile customers. The agreements are also a testament of the strong partnership developed with Etisalat Misr across several services including international voice services, national roaming, site sharing as well as the anticipated partnerships in access services.’
