Mobile operators attract 1.3 m customers in 8 months

The mobile phone market attracted 1.3 million new customers in the first eight months of this year, bringing the total number to 99.5 millions in August from 98.2 million in January.

According to Ministry of Communications’ indicators, the number of Vodafone Egypt subscribers rose by 1.7 million customers, to 42.3 million subscribers, compared to 40.6 million.

This figure indicates that a large number of Vodafone chips are not registered on the company's database.

The number of Orange subscribers fell by 600,000, to 33.1 million, compared to 33.7 million.

The number of Etisalat customers rose by 300,000, reaching 24.1 million, compared to 23.8 million.

It is noteworthy that the three mobile operators got licenses for the fourth generation of 4G communications during the past year, and paid the full value worth 1.1 billion dollars and 10 billion pounds to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The service was officially launched in the the market on September 18.
